Dr. Denis Gray Ph.D.

BIOGRAPHY -- DENIS O. GRAY, Ph.D.

Denis Gray is Professor, and coordinator the Psychology in the Public Interest Program, Department of Psychology, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, N.C. For the past two decades, Dr. Gray's research has focused on science and technology policy issues, particularly the outcomes and implications of cooperative research mechanisms.  He is currently is principal investigator of a multi-year grant to evaluate the National Science Foundation's Industry-University Cooperative Research Centers (IUCRC) Program. He also leads a social science research effort focused on cooperative research processes for the Center for Environmentally Responsible Solvents and Processes, a NSF Science and Technology Center.  

 

Dr. Gray has published extensively on the topic of cooperative research. His books include: Innovaton U.: New university roles in a knowledge economy (co-author); and Managing the industry/university cooperative research center (Battelle Press) and Technological innovation: Strategies for a new partnership (Elsevier) (senior editor). He is co-author of monographs on science and engineering “brain drain”: Where have all the students gone?; Who will stay and who will leave and contributed to National Academy of Engineering’s  review of the National Nanotechnology Initiative, Small wonders, endless frontier: A review of the National Nanotechnology Initiative. He has served on the editorial board of Evaluation Review and Journal of Technology Transfer and as consultant/site visitor on cooperative research to over a dozen countries. A native of New York City (and former taxi cab driver), Dr. Gray received his B.A. in Psychology from Manhattan College. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Ecological/Community Psychology from Michigan State University, East Lansing Michigan.
