Biography
Dr. Bernard Timberg

Bernard Timberg is a documentary filmmaker, radio producer, and media critic, whose last university position was as chair and telecommunications internship director of the Communication Arts Department at Johnson C. University in Charlotte, NC.  He is co-editor with John S. Lawrence of two editions of Fair Use and Free Inquiry: Copyright Law and the the New Media, Ablex Publishers, (1980) 1989, and for three decades has written about and participated in forums on  intellectual property /fair use, including the panel on "Copyright in the Next Century" at the Next 5 Minutes Tactical Media Conference in Amsterdam, Holland and  the Annenberg School of Communication's Conference, "Knowledge Held Hostage: Scholarly Versus Corporate Rights in the Digital Age" in June 2004.  His most recent work involves balancing the rights of independent filmmakers, researchers, archivists and the public at large in a collaboration between filmmaker. university film archive and university academic department: ("Putting the Out-Takes to Work," now in proposal stage).
